Monsterpalooza 2011
Monsterpalooza was a huge event for monster fans of all types. Fans gathered in Burbank, California for this three day event in April 2011. Guests came from all over the world, including Haruo Nakajima, the actor who played Godzilla and Ricou Browning, known to many as The Creature From The Black Lagoon. There were many full size monsters on display in a large “museum” and many more on display in the dealers room. The dealers room featured plenty of monster memorabilia, toys, models, masks and more.
For model builders, Moebius Models sponsored a “make and take” room for kids 16 and under, giving them a free Creature from the Black Lagoon kit, molder especially for the show in lime green or bright pink plastic. Also available was a special, numbered Creature kit molded in clear green plastic. This was limited to 125 kits. Amazing Figure Modeler hosted the model contest with over 60 entries. Von Franco, designer of the Eye Gone Wild kit from Moebius was at the show, signing kits, and special postcards, as well as presenting an airbrush demo. There were other presentations by Jeff Yagher on sculpting and David Whitford on painting figures.
Bob Burns was at the show, participating in a “Men in Suits” panel and he was kind enough to bring King Kong along as well. I was able to hook up with many friends and customers at the show including Joel Tavera who has contributed many kits on the Cult website.
I’ve pretty much limited my pictures to the model show. You can find plenty more photos from the even posted in the various monster forums on the web.
I’m already looking forward to next year’s show!
