Reality to Fantasy: The Evolution of Theme Park Design An Exhibit by Paul M. Newitt

“Reality to Fantasy: The Evolution of Theme Park Design” was an exhibition by Paul Newitt at the Design Museum, at University of California, Davis in Jan-Feb, 2002. Paul is best known to modelers as the author of the Star Fleet Assembly Manuals and is one of the pillars of sci-fi modeling.

Newitt’s exhibition answered the questions of how them park attractions were created and designed. The process begins with a plot, and around that comes “enhancements that involve theatrical design; graphics; interior and architectural design; mechanical engineering; even marketing and advertising.” All this comes together in a successful park attraction.

Paul has worked with Walt Disney Imagineers, learning their methods of design. His background includes graphic design, photography exhibit design for museums and trade shows. And he even finds time to build models.
